How do I plug in additional savings “prior” to retirement?

You put your “anticipated” savings in the balance sheet along with all of your other investments.

In the balance sheet you have 2 sections: cash & investments, and income sources.

Your cash is just that…cash or short term things like CD’s etc.
Your investments are your 401K, annuities, stocks, etc.
Income is Social Security, pensions, etc.

The balance sheet is a “place holder” if you will for all of your money. Then you will see the total amount of the balance sheet in the blue box which is the total of all of the line items in the balance sheet.

So for example, if you are not going to retire for 10 more years and you think you wil save an additional $10,000 per year, just put a new cash record in at $100,000 as additional savings. Or assume that $10K a year for 10 years, with interest growth is worth $110K or so at the end of 10 years.

Or show a lump sum of $100,000 in the income sources section with the start and end date as the same year.

You could also create several different cash line items like “savings assumption 1″, “savings assumption 2″ etc, then save them as different scenarios…then switch it up…toggle back and forth between the different scenarios. Each time you do that you have to change the corresponding overall value in the basket, so the program knows what interest rate, duration, etc. to apply to it.

What about my personal financial data, like bank accounts and 401K’s?  I am not comfortable giving out that kind of information.

Of course you’re not, who would be? The software does not ask for any information regarding your account numbers or stuff like that.

You only have to put in the “values” of your various nest eggs into the balance sheet. Like how much money you have in your savings, 401K, stocks and mutual funds. All of the “values” of your different retirement savings accounts are put into the Nest Egg Software balance sheet, but not any other account information.

Security of your personal financial data is of the utmost importance to us.

All of your data resides on your computer and nowhere else.

The Database has 2 levels of protection: it is password protected to ensure that only the Nest Egg application can open the file in its native format, and, it uses a 128-bit AES encryption to enable complete privacy.

Your data is rock-solid secure on your computer.
